Connecticut statistics indicate that the highest percentage of work zone crashes is rear end collisions with the most common contributing factor being following too close. Federal, state, municipal officials, representatives of the construction industry, and utility companies join the Governor and Commissioners from various agencies at annual work zone safety event to highlight the National and State Work Zone Safety Awareness Week. Campaign efforts included outreach to driver training companies, motor transport associations, utility companies, schools, contractor organizations. At the annual press event, the Connecticut Department of Transportation and the Connecticut Transportation Institute Technology Transfer Center at the University of Connecticut presents the winners of the Every Life Counts in Connecticut Roadway Safety Poster Contest.
