Center lane closure

Iowa workers typically do not work in a center lane only. Instead, work zone designs try to close the inside or outside lane in addition to the center lane to allow the workers an “out” lane if an incident occurs. See the web site below for IDOT’s typical standard for such work, which closes two of the three lanes when traffic volumes allow.
