New traffic control methods for mobile work zones and their effectiveness in reducing crashes
California DOT has not introduced any new traffic control methods recently. However, the maintenance department does require additional protection over what is recommended in the MUTCD. California requires advance warning vehicles behind and in front of the work vehicle for 2-lane moving lane closures and use of attenuators on shadow vehicles. See the website below for traffic control plates as a reference.
