ARTBA & National Safety Council Launch Roadway Work Zone Safety Training Program
Abstract:The American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) and the National Safety Council (NSC) have teamed up to develop and distribute a new program, OSHA 10-Hour Training Exclusively for the Roadway Construction Industry. The program focuses directly on the day-to-day hazards faced by roadway construction workers. Workers in the roadway construction industry are employed in one of America’s most dangerous occupations. Employers and workers in this industry not only face hazards from working around heavy construction materials, vehicles and equipment, but are also exposed to dangers posed by traffic, often passing their work areas at high speeds. Recognizing these hazards, ARTBA, in cooperation with the NSC, developed a program that meets the requirements for Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10-Hour accreditation while reconciling the distinct principals of traffic and worker safety.
