ATSSA Members Lead the Way in Safety with ITS and Work Zones

Abstract:

Penn DOT will install an Advanced Road Traffic Weather Information network that provides actual real-time traffic and weather information. The ARTWIN stations represent the latest wireless communications and sensor technology. When fully operational the ARTWIN will significantly lower the cost of winter maintenance. The article covers other equipment including: a vehicle detection system, high-intensity lights, removable markings, safer crossings, crash cushions, changeable signs and messaging options, attenuators and solar barrier lights.
