Editorial: Troopers Have Their Eye Out – So Should Drivers
Abstract:The New York state police will be out in full force on highways this week to crack down on speeders as part of the annual “Operation Work Brake” campaign and the “Speed Week” campaign. “Operation Work Brake” is a five-day campaign designed to make drivers more cautious, especially around work zones. “Speed Week” is targeting speeders in general. Motorists are advised to always slow down and use caution when driving through work zones. Under Work Zone Safety Act of 2005, which was passed after three construction workers were killed in May 2005, anyone convicted of two or more work zone speeding violations will face a double fine, a $50 surcharge, and a 60-day suspension of driver’s license.
