Feasibility of Visualization and Simulation Applications to Improve Work Zone Safety and Mobility

As a part of the four-hour webinar hosted by the Smart Work Zone Deployment Initiative (SWZDI) on July 26, 2010, which presented the results of notable recently completed SWZDI projects, this presentation discusses the result of an online survey conducted to determine demographics, job duties and computer usage, and opinions regarding benefits and drawbacks of current and future technologies. The results of the survey reveal the differences in opinion between government vs. non-government agencies, more experienced vs. less experienced individuals, and those familiar with GIS, CAD, and 2D drawing systems vs. those who are not. The results of the survey also indicate the general acceptance of the use of simulation and visualization to improve Work Zone Safety and mobility.
