Highways Will Be Busy Weekend Before 4th; Work Zones May Slow Travels at Some Spots

Abstract:

With the 4th of July falling on a Wednesday, many travelers are expected to take advantage of the weekend before to get a jump on a week when they only have to use up four vacation days. “Since the holiday falls mid week, many jobs will continue to be active throughout the week, with the exception of July 4th,” Rhinesmith said. “We ask motorists to be prepared for lengthy back ups as they approach work zones and to obey the reduced speed limits in them. Please give our workers a ‘brake,’ so they and their families can enjoy the holiday, too.” Wisconsin State Patrol Superintendent Douglas Van Buren noted that most crashes in work zones are caused by inattentive or aggressive driving. “Rear end collisions are the number one crash type we see in work zones,” he said. “Inattentive driving, following too closely, and speeding are responsible for nearly half of all work zone crashes.”
