Nuno Goncalves Pleads Nolo in Drunk Driving Fatality: Crash Killed Johnson & Wales Student

Abstract:

In Providence, RI, 21 year-old Nuno Goncalves plead nolo contendere to drunk driving charges in connection with the October 7, 1998 crash that killed an 18 year-old Johnson & Wales University student. Goncalves, whose blood alcohol level was nearly twice the legal limit, was driving at an excessive speed in a construction zone when the crash occurred. For the second day in a row, a defendant has admitted to driving drunk and causing a car crash that killed a teenager. The State recommended that the court impose the 15-year maximum sentence on the charge of driving under the influence-death resulting.
