Put Down the Phone in the Work Zone!

In Alabama it is not illegal to use cell phones while driving, this campaign is to support an effort made by companies, organizations, county, state & federal employees, schools and citizens to join in “Putting Down the Phone” while driving during the week of   National Work Zone Awareness, April 6th-10th and to pay EXTRA ATTENTION while driving through a work zone. The talking points about this campaign are about distractions. Can drivers make a difference in their driving behaviors by creating a plan on cell phone use while traveling, using a safe pull off to talk, using voice mail and understanding the dangers of cell phone distractions while driving? The change you can make in driving behavior could reduce accidents and may save a life or even your own life. Amy Davidson’s husband was hit while working on the highway when a motorist distracted did not see the arrow board, that behavior choice changed  Amy’s life forever as well as his own. As a statewide campaign to spend one week with the phone down is about change and your ability to make a difference. This is an opportunity that Alabama can promote a community service event, businesses that do not have cell phone policy driving plans in place can ask employees to make a commitment and raise the awareness across the state that yes laws make change but Alabamians’ also can make change. The help and effort that all of us dedicate to this week has added a lot of strength and information that help support the reason for this campaign.
Slow Down and Stay Alert!
