Design and oversight of work zone operations
Rhode Island has an engineering division that prepares and/or reviews consultant designs. Once the PS&E is approved, the project is sent to Construction and administered by resident engineers.
RI has adopted the MUTCD for all work zone traffic control. When and if work zones vary from the MUTCD, the traffic engineering section must review and concur with the changes. (The changes mentioned are for site-specific changes and not modifications to the MUTCD Part 6.)
The Maintenance Division and all other sections must comply with the MUTCD for temporary traffic control, including anyone applying for access or utility applications.
