Lane closures in rainy weather

Virginia DOT does not have any written requirement to reopen closed lanes during rain. However, it is standard practice to open temporary lane closures, if possible, due to the increased chance of driver error and lack of worker visibility and productivity.   Lane closures are not allowed to be installed during increment weather conditions as prohibited in Section 6G.21 of the VA Work Area Protection Manual (VA’s version of Part VI of the MUTCD).
