Lane lines in work zones
Virginia DOT’s typical lane line width is 4 inches. However, 8 inch wide lines are used in transition areas of long duration lane closures on limited access highways. Wider lane lines may be used in other situations according to district preference. Also, where wider lines are in place prior to construction (example: 6 inch lines are used on limited access highways), work zone markings match the same width of permanent markings.
