Worksite traffic supervisor requirement and certification
As of Dec. 1998, Oregon is developing traffic control supervisor specifications that will be similar to those in Washington state. Complex and high-volume projects will include a bid item for a supervisor to be on “short call.” This person will make sure traffic control devices are maintained and placed properly and would be responsible for making modifications to the traffic control plan if necessary. This person would also attend all meetings related to traffic control and management on the project. Training and certification will be required. Certification details are still being worked out.
Assessment:
They believe this will be quite an expensive addition to the contract, but they are very interested in implementing it because they think it will add to the safety and quality of the work zone.
