Pace vehicles or speed control vehicles to limit driver speeds through construction work zones
The only projects on which Michigan used pace/pilot vehicles have been preventative maintenance/chip seal and crush and shape projects, and only on two-lane two-way roadways. These projects are necessary to restrict speeds to approx 35 mph to keep stones from flying and damaging people and vehicles until the roadway is swept. Contractors are required to provide the vehicle and personnel. There has been no recorded public reaction either negative or positive to this procedure.
