Penalty for failing to promptly open lanes beyond the lane closure limit
Mississippi currently uses lane rental fees on certain type projects, usually on interstate projects and other high-volume routes. Road user costs associated with delays determine the dollar amount of the fee. The state has used two time frames in applying fees, one is on a per hour basis (including partial hours) and the other is on a per 5 minute basis (including partial minutes). Fees have ranged from about $1,500 to $5,000. The charge is uniform. The scope of the work, traffic volumes, number of available lanes, peak volumes, etc. determine the time frame and dollar amount used on each project.
