Penalty for failing to promptly open lanes beyond the lane closure limit

Minnesota DOT has a standard charge of $500.00 per hour penalty when a contractor fails to remove temporary lane closure restrictions outside the permitted hours. This is a uniform charge and is not incremental with the amount of delay. There are exceptions to this rate, including projects which utilize lane rental provisions, but this is the standard penalty rate and is applied to urban and rural projects.
