Permit requirements to install/erect temporary traffic control warning signs and other temporary traffic control devices along roadways
NY state highway law requires anyone wanting access to highway right-of-way to get a Highway Work Permit. Even local governments wanting to install traffic control devices on a state highway must get a highway work permit, although the permit fee if often waived in those cases. Traffic control devices installed by private parties are usually a condition listed in a highway work permit to do the work that warrants the traffic control, so a separate permit to install the traffic control would not be required except for a signal. A traffic signal installed by a private party would require a signal permit in addition to the Highway Work Permit.
