Personal protective equipment requirements
Oregon DOT requires its employees to wear:
Hard hats – This is based on a hazard assessment, not day vs night. Soft caps are allowed when there is no overhead or electrical hazard.
Safety glasses – Based on a hazard assessment, not day vs night.
Safety shoes – Based on a hazard assessment, not day vs night. Bridge maintenance activities require safety-toed shoes.
Safety vests – ANSI Class II vests required for all flagging operations and night work. Bright colored clothing allowed for work during the day on or adjacent to the highway.
