Personal protective equipment requirements
Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) requires employees to wear:
– Hard hats whenever an overhead hazard exists.
– Safety glasses when grinding, working in labs, dusty conditions, or around hazardous materials.
– Safety shoes on construction sites and in other areas where hazards of stepping on sharp objects exist or where the hazard of heavy materials falling on feet is present.
– Safety vests: As of 2008, ITD employees are required to wear retroreflective high visibility outer garments [vests, jackets, coats, shirts] that meet the ANSI/ISEA 107-2004 Class 2 specification any time they are on the highway — the policy includes volunteers picking up litter.
