Photo enforcement in work zones

South Dakota experimented with two laser/cam speed detection units in work zones as part of its Work Zone Speed Enforcement Program. The laser radar speed detection gun was used by an officer in speed detection and enforcement. The combination laser/video was used by traffic engineers who are certified in operating this equipment. Vehicles and license plates were recorded on video, and a warning ticket for speeding was sent to offenders along with a picture of the vehicle, date, location, and speed.
