Police enforcement in work zones

Rhode Island DOT uses the state police on construction projects that take place on limited-access facilities and for statewide striping contracts. They are used on those types of projects because the roadways usually go through two or more communities. The limits of other construction projects are normally within one community and therefore local police and flaggers are used on an as-needed basis.
