Portable Sign Supports

Montana follows these guidelines for portable sign supports:
Construct portable sign support assemblies from lightweight yielding material. Meet the following requirements:
A. Use wood members with a maximum 16 square inch (10.3 m2) cross section for base construction and 8 square inch (5.2 m2) cross section for uprights and braces.
B. Use tubular metal members with a maximum 9 square inch (5.8 m2) cross section.
C. Use solid metal members with a maximum 1 square inch (645 mm2) cross section. Portable signs may be trailer-mounted if:
1. The weight of the trailer assembly does not exceed 250 pounds (113.5 kg);
2. The axle, frame, support assembly, and other structural members do not exceed the dimensions of the portable sign support assembly;
3. The trailer tire outside diameter does not exceed 28-inches (715 mm). Automotive and equipment axle assemblies cannot be used for trailer-mounted sign supports.
