Salvaged and/or re-galvanized guardrail on construction projects

Alabama allows the use of salvaged guardrail as indicated on plans for guardrail reset. -Under what circumstances will the state agency authorize its use? Guardrail to be salvaged will be indicated on project plans (only for resetting guardrail). -How does the state agency verify and certify that the salvaged and/or re-galvanized guardrail meets state specifications? Guardrail is inspected by DOT inspectors for damage and corrosion. -How long has the state agency allowed the use of salvaged and/or re-galvanized guardrail? At least since 1991. -How is salvaged and/or re-galvanized guardrail bid in a project? As guardrail reset. -How is it documented that using salvaged and/or re-galvanized guardrail will result in significant savings? Guardrail must be reset as part of repaving operations, reusing the existing guardrail will result in a significant savings with respect to costs associated with material as the guardrail must be removed and reinstalled.
