Placement of G20-1 signs

Texas DOT uses Barricade and Construction Standard Sheets, BC(1)-98 to BC(9C) -98, to show placement of warning and construction signs typically needed at the entrance to project limits. The G20-1 sign is placed at the beginning of the project limits as determined by Control-Section-Job (CSJ) numbers provided by the TxDOT Transportation Planning and Programming Division.
If project limits are adjacent to the work area, any regulatory and warning signs needed are placed in advance of the project limits and the G20-1 sign. These signs are spaced at the appropriate distances as defined by the Texas MUTCD. If the project limits are located away from the work area, the only sign that is normally placed in advance of the G20-1 is a speed limit sign with the “traffic fines double” plaque. It is not TxDOT’s standard practice to install the G20-1 sign in advance of all warning signs, but only at the project limits as determined by CSJ numbers.
