Work zone impact thresholds

Texas does not have any statewide policy on queue length or delay time thresholds. The work zone impacts are usually considered at the district level so that varying environments are treated on a case-by-case basis by those most familiar with each facility. Common measures taken are restricted work hours or nighttime work schedules. Contractors are allowed to propose their own traffic control plans for consideration by the TxDOT district. This could be viewed as an appeal of sorts. Project inspectors typically are involved in monitoring, although some areas receive assistance from Traffic Management Systems operators.
