Work zone speed limit
Massachusetts tries to maintain posted speed limits in work zones, but will post advisory speed limits (black on orange) when applicable. In this case, the regular speed limit signs (black on white) are not covered. The advisory speed limit signs are posted at the beginning of the work zone, usually not posted within. In the case where they are posted within, they usually accompany other traffic control signs such as ‘right lane closed ahead’ or ‘construction ahead.’ There are no requirements for spacing signs.
If reducing the regular speed limit is required, it is done in 10 mph intervals. In this case, the regular speed limit signs are covered.
