Work zone speed limit

In Colorado, prior to the implementation of a speed reduction, the project engineer/manager is responsible for completing the Authorization and Declaration of Temporary Speed Limits form (CDOT Form 568). For emergencies and other unplanned work, the LTC OPS I’s authorization to implement speed reductions in work zones is guided by the following two memos:
– Delegation of Authority to Reduce Speed Limits in Maintenance Work Zones for Single Lane Operations with a Stop Condition on Two-Lane Roadways
– Revised Delegation of Authority to Reduce Speed Limits in Maintenance Work Zones. The LTC OPS I is still required to submit CDOT Form 568 after the unplanned work is complete, for recordkeeping purposes.

State/Agency: Colorado
Topics: Speed Limits
