Work zone speed limit
In Mississippi, the elected highway commission is empowered by law to lower speed zones from the maximum set by law. Mississippi has developed standing commission orders to lower the speed zones in work zones by 10 mph on high-speed facilities such as interstates with 70 mph, four-lane divided highways with 65 mph, and two-lane roadways with 55 mph. The standing speed zones allow the project engineer to lower the speed limit when there is work within the clear zone such as detours, shoulder work, or any encroachment within the clear zone.
