A Better Way to Channel Traffic Through Highway Work Zones
Abstract:Texas DOT decided to test the opposing traffic lane divider. Designed and evaluated under the Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP), the device is a small, portable sign with two-way arrows on its face. The signs are placed in sequence, acting as temporary centerline markers. Drivers entering an area where a one-way road has been converted to two-way use can tell immediately that the lanes have been reconfigured. The devices are easy to set up and remove, will not blow over, and can be quickly restored to their original position if struck by a vehicle.
