AASHTO President E. Dean Carlson Drives Home Key Point at National Work Zone Safety Event

Abstract:

AASHTO President E. Dean Carlson, families of fatality victims and officials of the Federal Highway Administration, the American Traffic Safety Services Association and other construction-related groups launched National Work Zone Awareness Week on the National Mall on Monday. Thousands of tourists saw the event’s display of 868 traffic cones, each representing one of the lives lost in 1999 U.S. work-zone accidents. AASHTO, with the Federal Highway Administration and the American Traffic Safety Services Association, sponsored the annual consciousness-raising event for the second consecutive year.
