AASHTO Strategic Highway Safety Plan: A Comprehensive Plan to Substantially Reduce Vehicle-Related Fatalities and Injuries on the Nation’s Highways
Abstract:One out of every 84 children born today will die violently in a motor vehicle crash, while six out of every ten children will be injured in a motor vehicle crash over the course of their lives, many of them more than once. The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) developed the Strategic Highway Safety Plan to address those statistics. The mission of the plan is to reduce the number of deaths by 5,000 to 7,000 each year, as well as to reduce health care costs substantially. A section on designing safer work zones is included.
