Alabama Doubles Speeding Fines in Construction Zones

Abstract:

Alabama became the 28th state to double speeding fines in construction zones Wednesday. The new law doubles fines from $20 to $40 for someone driving less than 25 mph over the speed limit in a construction zone where workers are present. For motorists caught traveling at more than 25 mph over the posted limit, the fine swells from $40 to $80. Court costs levied in addition to the fines will not go up. The Alabama Department of Public Safety said the new law was needed to stop an increasing number of accidents in highway construction zones. State troopers patrolled three of the state’s most-traveled construction zones Wednesday, the day the law took effect.
