The House Transportation Committee approved the bill sponsored by Rep. Sarah Stevens after emotional debate that featured the obituary of a state Department of Transportation worker who was killed March 23 in a Goldsboro work zone crash. The bill would spare drivers North Carolina state’s $250 penalty for speeding through highway work zones in cases where no construction workers were present.
