California’s Work Zone Enforcement Experience

Abstract:

This article describes the cooperative efforts between the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) and the California Highway Patrol (CHP) to mitigate the adverse impacts of work zones through comprehensive traffic management planning. A discussion of the Construction Zone Enhanced Enforcement Program (COZEEP) is contained in the article. The primary goal of the COZEEP program is to adequately enhance enforcement in high-risk construction zones to maintain reasonable levels of safety and mobility.
