Can Waymo and Waze Fix Cities’ Potholes?

Author/Presenter: DiBenedetto, Chase
Abstract:

Waymo and Waze have launched a pilot program to help cities identify and repair potholes using data collected by Waymo’s autonomous vehicles. The system detects pothole locations and road conditions, then shares the information with transportation agencies through the Waze for Cities platform, where users can also verify reported hazards. The pilot will begin in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Austin, and Atlanta, with plans to expand to additional cities. By leveraging autonomous vehicle and crowdsourced data, the partnership aims to improve roadway maintenance, enhance safety, and support more efficient infrastructure management.
