The first speed camera got to work on Monday in the Northwest Branch Bridge work zone on the Capital Beltway. Speeders caught by the camera through August 21st will receive a warning, after that any vehicle going 12 mph over the posted 55 mph speed limit will receive a $40 citation. Officials say studies of the cameras have proven effective, citing a 50% decrease in motorists going more than 10 mph over the speed limit.
