CDOT Adds New Technology After a “Record-Breaking Year for Work Zone Fatalities.”

Author/Presenter: Demosthenous, Bella
Abstract:

In response to an alarming spike in work zone incidents, which include nearly 600 crashes and 31 fatalities across Colorado in 2024, the Colorado Department of Transportation has initiated a new speed enforcement program along Colorado Highway 119 between Longmont and Boulder. This initiative utilizes cameras to capture vehicle speeds over a measured segment of roadway. Vehicles averaging 10 mph or more above the posted limit will be identified via camera at two points and penalized with a $75 civil fine. Cameras are already installed, with a warning phase set to begin on July 21, 2025, followed by enforcement of fines in fall 2025.
