Crashes in I-94 Work Zone Prompt Safety Warnings, Schedule Changes

Author/Presenter: Fulton, Rachel
Abstract:

Two semitruck crashes within 24 hours on I-94 near Jackson have raised concerns about safety in construction zones. The incidents occurred in an area with temporary lane shifts for a chip seal project, with distracted driving and speeding cited as likely causes. In response, the Michigan Department of Transportation has shifted remaining work to early Sunday mornings to minimize traffic impacts and is coordinating with state police to increase enforcement. Officials continue to urge drivers to slow down, merge early, and stay alert to protect both motorists and roadway workers.
