Detour Solution Minimizes Work Zone Impact During Major Highway Construction in New Jersey
Abstract:During the widening of I-295 and Route 42 in Camden, New Jersey, the replacement of a bridge was essential to accommodate increased traffic and maintain critical utility services. A 450-foot Acrow detour bridge, spanning two sections of 240 and 210 feet with a 24-foot-wide roadway, was installed to ensure uninterrupted two-way traffic flow. Despite the challenges of a tight construction area and the need to cross two major highways, the bridge was successfully assembled and launched using a specialized long launching nose to reduce structural weight during installation. Completed in August 2021, the detour bridge will remain in use until late 2024.
