Dispelling Highway Construction Zone Myths
Abstract:Accidental deaths in highway construction zones across the United States averaged 850 per year between 2006 and 2008, and injuries in these work zones have been estimated at 40,000 per year. Most injuries in work zones are to motorists and/or their passengers, and the majority of fatalities are caused by rear-end collisions. Work zone fatalities can be reduced if drivers stay attentive and drive in accordance with the flow of traffic.
