DOT Blames Distracted Driving for High Number of Work Zone Fatalities

Author/Presenter: Tarancon, Alicia
Abstract:

The Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) reported 10 work zone related fatalities in 2017, which is slightly down from 2016 but still a bit higher than the past two decades. The Iowa DOT has used Intelligent Transportation Systems to alert drivers of construction zones and accidents on the highways. But there are still accidents in the construction zones. Iowa DOT wants to remind people to slow down, put down cell phone, and pay attention when driving through work zones.
