Fatality Reduction Program in the Traffic Work Zone – Phase 1 and Phase 2

Author/Presenter: King, George
Abstract:

This non-profit study relates to reducing fatalities and injury accidents to highway workers and the public in work zones. The study is to be completed in phases each year to the year 2001 as data and contributions and resources become available. It is focused on identifying causes and cures” of work zone traffic accidents that have potential for avoidance. Includes statistics of 10 year trend of construction zone crashes and work zone fatalities from 1984-1996. Contributing factors are noted as well as existing and proposed accidents countermeasure plans of several State agencies. The project is expected to have impact on the engineering structure of work zones, MUTCD, hardware, software, training, and public education as well as increased law enforcement. State construction and Traffic Agencies are encouraged to make existing annual data available as well as accident countermeasure techniques and reports for cross pollination to other contributing State agencies.”
