Guidelines for Evaluating Public Interest Findings and Certifications for Retroreflective Sheeting for Traffic Control Signs

This document provides additional information for Divisions of Federal Highway Administration to assist in decision-making in this specialized technical area. This document was requested by the Division Safety Specialists at the March 2006 Safety Leadership Conference. It builds upon FHWA January 13 memorandum, “Sign Sheeting Proprietary Products,”
by providing further details and information on the status of sign sheeting standards and processes for approving public interest findings and product certifications. It also includes a brief summary of the process for approving experimental requests.
