Highway and Work Zone Safety Through Innovative Traffic Control
Abstract:In 1996 and 1997, the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) developed a Strategic Highway Safety Plan that outlines a comprehensive, integrated approach to significantly reduce deaths on highways. Some of the strategies suggested in this plan have been implemented and some are still in the process of study and development. Many of them relate to the use of traffic control devices and systems to better manage the flow of vehicles.
