Highway Design Manual Revision No. 48 – Chapter 16: Maintenance and Protection of Traffic in Highway Work Zones

The last update of Chapter 16 of the Highway Design Manual was made in 1983. Since then, the policy and guidance for the maintenance and protection of traffic in highway work zones has been provided through the issuance of Engineering Instructions (EIs). Revision No. 48 is a compilation of the guidance and policy in currently active EIs, modified to include comments received from the clearance review as well as from the continued involvement and guidance of the Traffic Engineering & Highway Safety Division and the Construction Division.
