How WYDOT Shares Critical Road-Closure Data With Navigation Companies and Road Users
Abstract:The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) has introduced the Situation Data Exchange (SDX), a sophisticated tool providing third-party access to real-time travel information. Developed by Trihydro to support the Wyoming Connected Vehicle Pilot, the SDX offers navigation companies updates on weather advisories, variable speed limits, road closures, and vehicle weight restrictions. This initiative, funded by the U.S. Department of Transportation, integrates data from CCTV, Road Weather Information System (RWIS) stations, snowplows, fleet vehicles, and counties, which are monitored by operators and meteorologists at WYDOT’s Transportation Management Center (TMC) in Cheyenne. The collected data is disseminated via the SDX, Wyoroad.info, and the Commercial Vehicle Operator Portal (CVOP) to enhance traveler safety. For the latest road conditions, especially during severe weather affecting Interstate 80, residents and visitors can access WYDOT’s Travel Information Service at wyoroad.info.
