Idaho, Wyoming Working on Teton Pass Road Repairs

Abstract:

Two catastrophic landslides on June 7 destroyed a section of Wyoming State Highway 22 at Teton Pass, leading to an indefinite closure while crews work on debris clearance and temporary repairs. Commuters are rerouted via US 26 through Swan Valley and Snake River Canyon, Idaho. Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) Director Darin Westby emphasized the critical nature of this highway for local access and tourism. WYDOT is coordinating with the U.S. Forest Service, Idaho Transportation Department, and other agencies for cleanup and temporary solutions. Governor Mark Gordon has declared an emergency to secure federal aid for substantial repairs. Temporary detour plans are in progress, aiming for limited reopening within weeks.
