Improving Work Zone Safety with Radar
Abstract:This article discusses three successful approaches to reduce speeds in work zones. The first is South Dakota’s DOT/COP program which uses two laser/video speed detection systems that capture the speed of the vehicle, speed limit, date, time of day, location, vehicle and license plate. To date, only warning letters have been sent to violators. The second is the use of radar speed trailers and boards by the Nebraska DOT and its effectiveness of slowing motorists down. The third is the use of radar drones. SD DOT uses the drones and the article discusses statistics about it use.
