In the Highway Danger Zone
Author/Presenter: Logg, CathyAbstract:
A careless driver on Highway 99 could have cost Wayne Fortune his life. He’s OK, but as road projects ramp up this summer, not all workers will be so lucky. The incident highlighted authorities’ concerns over the risks to road workers during the summer construction season. There are a lot of people exceeding the speed limits and following too closely in work zones. With the added distractions of a construction zone and the added potential for fatalities with people standing on the side of the freeways, it’s a real problem. In the last few years, the Transportation Department has joined forces with the State Patrol and hired troopers to be present in construction zones and go after violators.
